Will Central Air Increase The Value of Your Home?

Whether you’re selling your home or thinking of doing so in the near future, you always have to put yourself in the buyer’s shoes. If you were buying a new home, would you want a house without central AC? Many sellers are never too sure if they should replace their existing, older AC unit or add central AC. The answer is simple: Do whichever will increase the value of your home the most.

First things first, if your AC unit is on the older side, replacing it with a central AC system is always the best choice. Older AC units cost a lot of money to repair and if replacing it is an option, spend the extra money for the central AC system. If your home has a radiator heating system that is maintained regularly, it can be efficient at heating your home. So there isn’t a need to worry about your heating.

Putting your home on the market with a central cooling system will attract a larger amount of potential buyers. Some potential buyers won’t even consider looking at a home if it does not have central AC. Put yourself in the buyer’s shoes again. You just spent a fortune on a new house. Do you really want to spend more money by adding a central cooling system after the fact? Most buyers would rather pay more included in the price of the house to avoid a separate expense and have to live with the installation.

The Final Verdict: A central AC system will increase the value of your home.

While you do incur the expense of adding the central system in, you will attract more potential buyers with higher offers than if you did not. More potential buyers also means that there will be a wider variety of offers for your home. This could help you sell your home sooner.

If you’re looking to upgrade to a central cooling system, let Aspen Air Conditioning handle that for you! When it comes to your home’s air conditioning, our professionals aim to provide you with the highest level of comfort with quality products, installation, and maintenance. 3 Ways To Cut Energy Costs This Summer

Are high energy bills keeping you from taking that much-needed summer vacation? Don’t let that happen - there are a number of ways to cut down on spending while keeping cool this season.

  1. Clean the filter: a clogged filter is a recipe for disaster when it comes to your energy bills. It will prohibit your cooling system from operating efficiently and can also have a negative impact on the air you’re breathing. Be sure to vacuum and sanitize it regularly.
  2. Run a fan: if you’re only going to be in one room of your house for a while, run a fan instead of turning on the a/c. It will help you feel cooler for a much lower price.
  3. Have a programmable thermostat installed: you only need to have the air conditioner running while you’re home, right? By having a programmable thermostat installed you can do just that. Set it so it only kicks on when you need it most.

Since our beginning in 1983, Aspen Air Conditioning has been focused on the comfort needs of Southeast Florida residents at home and at work. So when you need service, give us a call at 561-395-1500 and don’t forget to connect with us on Twitter!

Testimonial Spotlight: July

What’s the number one cause of air conditioner failure during the summer? You guessed it - lack of maintenance. At Aspen Air Conditioning, we take pride in creating lasting relationships with our customers and we’ll make sure your cooling system is properly maintained. Want to hear from some of our customers? See below to learn about their experiences:

“I have had their maintenance for years and years and they are wonderful. It's reasonably priced, and they spend a LOT of time doing FULL maintenance. I've had other companies either be here to briefly, miss something, and screw up an AC install. Aspen has hit on all marks with me. They show up promptly and the office staff is great too. SO hard to find someone reliable in South Florida. Found their prices very fair when I priced around. I never even post reviews on Google but for Aspen, I took the time out.”

  • Jason T.

"Although it was the last thing I wanted to be, I reluctantly became a landlord on an underwater house I could not sell for three years. Getting calls from tenants at all hours because something wasn’t working was a nightmare. Fortunately, I had the good sense to sign a maintenance contract with Aspen Air Conditioning for the duration. With one phone call, they were johnny-on-the-spot to take care of issues as they arose. The customer service department is so helpful and accommodating and the technicians are wonderful at fixing the problem quickly (without pushing parts or service I didn’t really need). My tenants were happy, and I was as well. I highly recommend the folks at Aspen Air. They were a pleasure to work with."

Is Service Every Several Years Enough?

When was the last time you had your air conditioner serviced? Was it this year? Was it last year? Was it several years ago? It’s common for homeowners to believe that they only need their cooling system serviced every couple of years, but is this correct?

Although your air conditioner may seem to be running fine, there are certain things that must be done in order to keep it running at maximum efficiency. Your equipment should be serviced by a professional every year to make sure. In the meantime, there are a few things you can do on your own:

  • Try running your air conditioning less during the peak of the afternoon. This is when the price of electricity is often the highest, so set it a few degrees higher after lunch.
  • Air flow is key. If your unit can achieve maximum air flow through the outdoor condenser coils it won’t have to work as hard. Make sure the area is clear.
  • Clean out the grill of the unit. A little bit of dirt and debris are normal, but if there appears to be a lot be sure to clean it out.

Need your air conditioner serviced? Count on the experts at Aspen Air Conditioning to make sure it’s operating at maximum capacity so you can stay cool this summer.

Plant Shade Trees To Help Keep Cool

Did you know that planting shade trees around your property can help keep your house cool during the warmer months? Not only will they block the sun’s hot rays, they will help keep their air in the shade cool as well. We know you don’t want to wait decades for them to grow, so here are a few of the fastest growing shade trees:

First off, you must understand that even the fastest growing trees will take about five to six years to provide any decent amount of shade. They must also be planted in soil that is filled with optimum moisture and nutrients. See below for a list of some species:
  • Freeman Maple: will grow to 75-80 feet tall and prefers sun and moist, well-drained soil.
  • ‘Green Vase’ Zelkova: this tree gets its name from its vase-shape with upright branches and dark green leaves. It prefers full sun to partial shade but can adapt to a variety of soils.
  • Tulip Tree: with a straight trunk and oval crown, this tree will grow 75-90 feet tall and prefers full sun and deep, moist soil.

Remember to keep your air conditioning unit as well as your thermostat out of direct light. Heat will cause your cooling system to work harder and more often which will only raise your energy bills. For more information, contact the experts at Aspen Air Conditioning today!

Traditional vs. Wi-Fi Thermostats

The days of non-programmable thermostats are just about over and the same goes for traditional programmable thermostats as well. As we move toward smart home technology, the next evolution of heating and cooling in the home is among us. So, what are some of the differences between traditional and Wi-Fi thermostats? Find out below:

In the past, thermostats were broken up into two categories: non-programmable and programmable. Although they are the most affordable option, non-programmable thermostats aren’t very practical. You have to manually change the temperature every time you are too warm or too cold, and they tend to consume much more energy than their programmable counterparts.

Programmable thermostats use a time period programming method which automatically adjusts the heat or cool temperature based on the time of day. While they were once considered the best, neither of these styles compare to the technology available in Wi-Fi thermostats today.

Wouldn’t you like some energy efficiency feedback so you know when and where you can save on your energy bills? How about being able to set the temperature in your home even while you’re away from your smartphone or tablet? All of this is possible with Wi-Fi thermostats.
